SA economy sheds 1‚163 jobs in April

The South African economy shed 1‚163 jobs during April‚ with the biggest losses occurring in temporary work‚ the Adcorp employment index showed.

The monthly index‚ which measures both private and public sector jobs‚ showed that South African employment figures were largely flat during April.

Significant job losses were observed in manufacturing (7‚000) and wholesale and retail trade (4‚000)‚ while only the public sector created jobs amounting to 5‚000 in government and 4‚000 in state-owned enterprises.

The informal sector created 1‚911 jobs. Only professional occupations created jobs in April (8‚000).
