Harvard Business School - Agribusiness Seminar

The Agribusiness Seminar - Africa will be held for the first time from September 27-30 in Cape Town, South Africa, with the goal of providing agribusiness stakeholders from Africa and around the world the latest on challenges and opportunities impacting the agribusiness market.

The programme will be led by industry expert HBS faculty, including former President and CEO of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover Jose B. Alvarez and program chair Forest Reinhardt, and feature research and case studies on the evolution of companies including Olem, Syngenta, Tesco and Yara. Specific topics include, but aren't limited to:

• Overviewing the relationships between sustainable development and company strategy
• Examining and evaluating strategies for managing business risk in commodities, including price risk, counterparty risk, holdup risk, and political risk
• Providing insight into African agricultural potential and the challenges to realising it
• Highlighting the complexities of building sustainable and scalable businesses in developing countries.
• Assessing trends in food buying, including how the rise of new digital channels such as internet sales and "virtual" stores, have had on traditional food retailers.

The programme is created specifically for producers, processors, manufacturers and distributors of agricultural food products, supplies and farm equipment, as well as major grocery chain and food service providers.
