AB InBev to invest R1bn to support smallholder farmers

Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) said on Friday it would invest R1bn to support smallholder farmers as part of the deal to acquire SABMiller for more than $100bn.

The package of commitments, which includes addressing unemployment, localisation of production and inputs used in the production of beer and cider, was agreed with the government.

These proposals will be recommended to the Competition Commission and Competition Tribunal, which will both look into the deal.
