Gosa offered a re-run at SABC

Zuma yesterday said that he has decided to give Gosa, who is also a member of the National Planning Commission, another term to serve on the SABC board following a recommendation of the National Assembly.

Gosa was interviewed for a vacant seat on the SABC board by the portfolio committee on communications in September this year after former board member Clifford Motsepe, who is an ally of expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema resigned in April.

She served on the SABC board that was in charge of overseeing the public broadcaster during the Presidency of Thabo Mbeki but also quit her seat in 2005 as board members clashed on how to tackle corruption at the SABC.

"Old grudges"

During the September interviews, ANC MPs kept asking her why she deserved a second chance to serve on the SABC board and whether she would not use her position to settle "old grudges". Gosa said at the time she would not do so because "I don't operate in that way anyway".

Zuma said he has appointed Gosa in terms of Section 13(1) of the Broadcasting Act and on the recommendation of the National Assembly. "I wish her well in the execution of this important function in the country's public broadcaster," said Zuma.

Gosa is the CEO of Akhona Properties and is also a non-executive director at other leading companies in the property industry, including in the Broll Property Group and Investec Asset Management. She boasts an MBA degree obtained at the University of Brunswick, Canada.
