Upper GIT Basic Endoscopy Course

Venue: Surgical Skills Training Centre, Red Cross Hospital
Time: 08.00 - 17.00

This course is limited to 12 participants.

Course content:
Basic interventional endoscopy including mucosal biopsy, polypectomy by hot snaring, foreign object retrieval, injection, haemostatic clip and variceal band application will form part of the practical training. PEG insertion technique will be demonstrated.
This full-day course will focus on the fundamentals of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, basic technique and practical tips, normal anatomy and common pathology.

A live link to the Groote Schuur Endoscopy Unit, during which upper endoscopies will be demonstrated, will form part of the academic session. Participants will have the opportunity to gain practical skills by performing endoscopies on porcine stomachs.

Who should attend?

Medical officers, medical and surgical registrars who wish to begin training in upper endoscopy are encouraged to attend.

Course fee is R 1,500 per person (refreshments and lunch included)
