Tannie Evita and Pieter-Dirk Uys offer some 'Food for Thought'

For those in need of a little 'Food for Thought', Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout - the most famous woman in South Africa - and Pieter-Dirk Uys pair up to provide a stimulating evening of thought-provoking prose, good food and wine, all in support of FoodBank South Africa and The Darling Trust.

"Uys dons false eyelashes and presidents listen," according to The LA Times.

In this spectacular performance, Uys and Evita will share the same stage, but not at the same time. Using his famed cracked mirror of satire, Uys will reminds us where we come from in order for us to celebrate where we are going, while Tannie Evita will provide some tips on cooking for reconciliation and will present the State of the Nation address that we all hope to hear.

Food for Thought takes place at Kelvin Grove Club, Newlands on Wednesday, 27 March 2013, and kicks off at 19h00. Tickets are R300 per person and include a three-course dinner and wine, with many prizes to be won. To book, email az.gro.knabdoof@gnitekram or call Ashleigh on 021 794 5813.

FoodBank SA was established in 2009 by merging existing hunger relief schemes to benefit from economies of scale and its Food Rescue Programme rescues thousands of tonnes of food each year, which would otherwise end up in landfill. FoodBank SA currently supplies food to more than 1,000 non-profit and community-based organisations throughout South Africa, including crèches, schools in impoverished areas and care facilities. Since opening in only three years, FoodBank SA has rescued and donated approximately 50 million meals.

The Darling Trust assists the community of Darling by enabling individuals to help themselves, primarily through participation in education, skills development and health care and support. The Trust works to establish grassroots programmes aimed at direct, personal interaction with the community of Darling.
