The Barcode Bar Academy was established in August 2009 as a division of Barcode Bar Services with the aim of providing professional internal and external bar service training, and consultancy to various players in the hospitality industry. Courses are NQF-aligned, requiring that they comply with strictly regulated international guidelines and ensuring that the Academy guarantees standards that can be externally corroborated. Professional bartenders with extensive international competition exposure and local hospitality experience have been trained further to become facilitators. Every Barcode Bar Academy instructor has received an outside accreditation in training facilitation and adult learning principles.
Ryan Duvenage - Current SA Classic Cocktail Champion and 7th in the world at the 2009 IBA World Cocktail Competition in Berlin - was personally responsible for co-ordinating the Vukukhanye training, tailoring the Academy's various programmes to this personnel company's specific needs. It is a bespoke approach that truly sets the Barcode Bar Academy apart.
The hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing segments of the South African economy and offers a promising avenue for sustainable unemployment alleviation. Barcode feels that the Academy has a significant role to play on this front, ensuring that professional skills are passed on and developed way beyond the needs of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. With corporate clients and prospective developmental partnerships, the Academy hopes to make large-scale professional and measurable training such as Vukukhanye's the standard in the local industry.
