September's used vehicle sales were only slightly down from a record R9.99bn reached in July. New vehicle sales peaked at R14.46bn in July 2015, and hit their lowest of R5bn in April 2009. Fuel sales – usually the motor industry's biggest earner – fell behind new car sales in September. Fuel sales declined 4% from the previous year to R12.46bn. Fuel sales fell 12% over three months from July's R14bn. Statistics SA's data show fuel sales peaked at R16.67bn in July 2014, and hit their lowest of R5.9bn in February 2006. Source: BDpro |
