Online spending up 30% at kalahari.com

Online spending at kalahari.com has seen over 30% year on year growth in sales thanks to an increased number of connected shoppers. Its recently released 2012 festive season survey, predicted that 92.4% of SA connected shoppers would be doing their festive season shopping online this year, an increase of close to 5% compared to 2011.

"We are having a bumper festive season so far. Our sales growth is not only good news for kalahari.com but it is also positive for the industry as a whole as it shows that South Africans are embracing the convenience of online shopping. Our predictions earlier this month indicated an increase in the number of shoppers opting to purchase their gifts over the internet and thus far the prediction is happening," says Liz Hillock, head of marketing at kalahari.com.

At this time of year, the retail sector experiences traditional seasonal surge in sales. For online shopping, this year signals positive signs for a further growth for South Africa's e-Commerce industry.

"With still a few days to go before the official festive season splurge, we are expecting a lot of stocking-filling traffic to the site. This week has been our busiest ever with shoppers indulging themselves on coveted items including electronics, toys, appliances and cameras. In the books and music categories, local products are flying high. We are in for an exciting season with South Africans choosing convenience and cost effectiveness over long queues at malls," concludes Hillock.
