The total income generated by the food and beverages industry increased by 6.2% in October this year compared with October last year‚ data from Statistics SA (Stats SA) on Monday, 10 December 2012, showed.
Positive annual growth rates were recorded for 'other' income (9.7%)‚ bar sales (6.4%)‚ and food sales (6.2%).

In terms of sectors‚ the main contributor to the annual growth rate of 6.2% in total income for October was takeaway and fast-food outlets with a 10.3% y/y rise and contributing 3.6 percentage points; followed by restaurants and coffee shops with a 3.5% increase and a 1.7 percentage point contribution; and catering services‚ with 5.7% and a one percentage point contribution.
Takeaway and fast-food outlets‚ and restaurants and coffee shops incomes contributed the most to the 9.4% quarterly rise in total income‚ Stats SA reported.
