Hlula Msimang dumped amid murder accusations

A recommendation that murder-accused Ekurhuleni metro chief Hlula Msimang be appointed executive director of public safety, has been withdrawn, according to a report on Monday (10 December).

The Star newspaper reported that he had been recommended by the City of Johannesburg mayoral committee to start in the new position on 1 December.

However, mayoral spokesman Fred Mokoko said the recommendation was withdrawn on the day Msimang appeared in court on a murder charge.

The charge relates to a shooting at Msimang's home in Bryanston in February this year.

Msimang would have been responsible for joint operations between the Johannesburg metro police department and emergency services, had he taken up the position.
