Women's Day of Prayer for Madiba

This event will give women of all religious groups in the province an opportunity to reflect, pray and celebrate the life and role of former President Nelson Mandela.

Briefing the media on Wednesday (11 December), Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane said this was in recognition of the ways in which Madiba promoted women's development and emancipation.

The programme will include representatives from different religious groups, including Christians, Muslims, Bahai, Jewish, Hindu and African Independent Churches.

Chabane once again reminded the public that they could take part in forming a guard of honour along the memorial route from 1 Military Hospital to the Union Buildings, where Madiba's body will lie in state.

Each day, a procession will leave the hospital at 07:00 and arrive at the Union Buildings at 08:00.

"We ask the public to line up along Kgosi Mampuru Street from the intersection with Jeff Masemola Street.

"From Kgosi Mampuru, the cortege will turn eastward into Madiba Street, along which it will make its way to the Union Buildings," said Chabane.
