MTN accountant arrested for allegedly stealing more than R20m

An MTN financial accountant has been bust for allegedly stealing R24m from the company, the Gauteng Hawks said.

"Investigations into her accounts came after a bank contacted MTN's management about 'suspicious activity' in her account," Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said.

"It is alleged that the suspect fraudulently transferred money from the MTN bank account into her personal bank account for the period between July 16 2015 and April 4 2017," Mulamu said.

The woman was arrested by the Hawks' serious commercial crime division, at MTN headquarters in Fairlands.

She was expected to appear before the Johannesburg specialised commercial crimes court for fraud and theft.
