Avusa's matric Q&A supplement out now

The much anticipated annual Matric Q&A supplement was published on Sunday, 29 July 2012, and the next one will be published on Wednesday, 1 August in the Sunday Times and the Sowetan Avusa newspapers respectively.

The guide is a standalone, 48-page tabloid supplement containing Grade 12 example exams and model answers written by top teachers and endorsed by advisers at the National Department of Basic Education.

With final exams in October, learners are in the last stretch of their schooling career and will be able to use this crucial resource to check their exam readiness before they write their prelim and final exams. The supplement covers subjects that have the highest learner enrolment and this year contains mock exam questions and answers for: Physical Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, Mathematical Literacy, English FAL, Accounting and Life Sciences.

"The Matric exams are the final hurdles for our learners and we wish to support them in every way we can, and, in this way assist in building the nation. It is our young people who will carry us forward and their education is of prime importance," says Patti McDonald, Avusa Education Publisher.

The supplement which has been in publication since 2009 is so highly regarded by the public and by the provincial education administrators that for the second year in a row, the Western Cape Education department has commissioned the Sunday Times to translate the supplement into Afrikaans, thereby increasing reach to learners across the province. This year 500 000 copies will be inserted into the Sunday Times and 155 000 into the Sowetan with additional copies being distributed to under-resourced schools nationwide. This has been made possible through the generous assistance of PC Training which has been a major sponsor for the past five years.

The matric exams are a key gauge in the state of the education system and, while last year's results reflected an improvement in the pass rates for Mathematics and Physical Science, McDonald urges readers of the Sunday Times and Sowetan newspapers who, themselves may not need the supplement, to pass their copies on to schools or learners who will benefit from it.

The Matric Q&A will be published on 29 July in the Sunday Times and on 1 August in Sowetan. Grade 12 learners will also be able to access the supplement online at www.timeslive.co.za and www.learn.co.za from 06 August.
