Motor trade sales up 1.9% in September
Motor trade sales -- which include sales from convenience stores -- rose by only 1.9% year-on-year (y/y) in September for the slowest y/y increase since November 2009‚ when motor trade sales declined by 0.2% y/y.
This compared with a 17.5% y/y rise as recently as May 2012‚ Statistics SA reported last week.
The increase in the first nine months of 2012 was 10.7% y/y compared with a 14.0% increase in 2011 and a 15.2% rise in 2010.
The highest growth rate was recorded for income from convenience store sales which rose by 10.9% followed by income from fuel sales (10.5%).
Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 1.5% month-on-month in September‚ following month-on-month changes of 0.6% in August and -1.6% in July.
Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales decreased by 1.8% in the third quarter.
