Changes in leadership at General Motors South Africa

General Motors South Africa (GMSA) has announced the appointment of John Astbury to the position of GMSA Vice President Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC). John Astbury takes over from Evan Dold, currently GMSA Vice President GPSC, who will retire after 20 years of dedicated service to the company.

"Evan has been a great asset to the company, he has played an instrumental role in integrating GM South Africa's supply chain activities into the global processes which has ensured streamlining of our operations and supplier relations. We thank Evan for his great work and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his life," said Edgar Lourencon, President and Managing Director GM Sub-Saharan Africa.

Significant changes

John Astbury, 53, brings with him a significant amount of experience into his new role, with 35 years of experience within the automotive sector, Astbury has held various positions within General Motors including assignments within the GMSA Manufacturing organisation since joining the company in 1995.

As a result of the above changes, Malcolm Gauld, 57, GMSA Vice President, Vehicle Sales Service and Marketing (VSSM) will take over the functional leadership of the After Sales team, with the new title of GMSA Vice President, Vehicle Sales Service and Marketing (VSSM), and will continue to report Edgar Lourencon, President and Managing Director GM Sub-Saharan Africa
