Romance at the Symphony Celebrating Valentine's

The KZN Philharmonic is pleased to welcome conductor Daniel Boico back to the podium in the
2013 season.

Always inspiring with his passionate and thoughtful conducting, maestro Boico and the KZN Philharmonic will be joined by soloists Anna Tifu and Pablo Sáinz Villegas.

The concert will open with Mozart's rousing overture from his famous opera "Le Nozze di Figaro" (The
Marriage of Figaro.) Then Ms. Tifu, a superbly talented young Italian violinist, will perform one of the
signature pieces in her impressively broad repertoire: Bruch's first violin concerto. This concerto is quite
possibly Max Bruch's most famous composition, and with its mix of excitement and melodic tranquility it's sure to be a gem.

Pablo Sáinz Villegas will then treat audiences to Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto De Aranjuez", showcasing the signature technique and grace that have made Mr. Villegas one of the world's foremost
classical guitarists. "Concierto de Aranjuez" depicts the lush gardens of the spring resort Palacio Real de Aranjuez. It sonically portrays not only the beauty of nature in the gardens, but the regal grandeur and noble spectacle of the dances and balls that would take place there.
Finally, the KZN Philharmonic will perform the orchestral suite from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake". With
its instantly recognisable melodies and lush scoring, Swan Lake has become one of ballet's most popular works, moving beyond classical music audiences to embrace the adoration of the wider public as well. The orchestral suite captures some of the ballet's most brilliant moments and showcases various of Tchaikovsky's most powerfully emotional and awe inspiring passages.
