The Company's Garden Party

There's a reason why everyone loves Cape Town at this time of year. Cape Town bursts to life this Friday with The Company's Garden Party, kicking off from 12 noon until 10pm nightly from 14 to 24 December.
The Company's Garden Party

The magnificent garden party is an inspired idea by Aidan Whytock, creative producer of Whytewood Creative Agency, who celebrates the ancient Khoi saying that Cape Town is the "Place of Sweet Waters".

For those who have seen Whytock in action on stage, in productions such as I Am Hamlet and Line, will now get an opportunity to see a different side of this talented performer.

Whytock came up with the idea when he shared a drink with friends at the Standard Hotel Beer Garden in New York and thought: "Why don't we have a proper beer garden, in an actual garden?"

"We can promise you that it's something Cape Town hasn't had before," says Whytock. "New York has Central Park; we have the Company's Gardens, with a mountain. All we're doing is adding quality drinks, food, music and hopefully people, all in the beautiful surroundings of our city's gardens."

The true nature of Capetonians

Visitors to the Mother City will be able to explore the true nature of Capetonians in the Company Gardens, with Table Mountain as a backdrop. What more could anyone ask for?

If you feel like relaxing with friends and family and enjoy the sweet waters of draft beer, fine wine and bubbles in a beautiful garden surrounding, this is the place to visit.

Guests will also have an opportunity of enjoying gourmet food and soothing music and celebrate the festive season at its most relaxing.

"We've secured some excellent beer," says Whytock. "Often events like this serve bottles and out of plastic cups. We were adamant that we want to serve beer at its best: on tap and in a proper pint glass . We've also ensured we have a decent summer variety of beer: European lagers, Lite beers, Weiss beers, Mexican summer drinkers and summer ales. So we hope the beer fans will be particularly chuffed."

And for non-beer drinkers, there's craft draft cider, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and a local MCC (sparkling wine).

"Naturally, no garden party is complete without Pimm's (for those of you who haven't had it before you're in for a summery treat)," smiles Whytock.

"The live afro jazz brings a really relaxed feeling to the garden party and the setting is ridiculously pretty: there isn't a venue like this anywhere else in the world. So we hope our guests expect and get refreshment, rejuvenation and relaxation."

There's an entrance fee of R40 and all drinks are R30. Tickets are available online at www.facebook.com/CompanysGardenParty and are selling fast.
Quirky hats are welcome and encouraged.
