Tired of gender? So is the media

According to the detailed report on media coverage around Women's Day and Month, Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) has a general sense that South African media is suffering from gender fatigue. Main gender areas featured were gender stereotypes, gender-based violence, government's role, progress in gender equality and the under-representation of women in the corporate world. The study concludes that ,although media touched on some important topics relevant to gender empowerment, the coverage overall lacked a sense of commitment, regularity, urgency and persistence in demanding answers and would have benefited from a more in-depth, urgent, analytical and demanding approach.
