Taiwanese tech innovation co. donates tablets to SA in aid of cerebral palsy

ASUS, a Taiwanese multinational computer hardware and electronics company, has donated ASUS MeMo Pad ME302KL tablet computers to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of South Africa.

As a platform for various specialised applications designed with special needs people in mind, these tablets are used primarily in the Association's Stimulation Department.

"The MeMo Pad delivers vivid visuals, rich sound and a 10-point multi-touch display," says Sifiso Nhlapo, Systems Marketing Specialist at ASUS South Africa. "Its low power consumption means that it lasts all day without recharging, and weighing in at only 527g, the tablet is very portable and easy to carry around. We are glad that we could help the Stimulation Department with this donation."

Lizette van Staden is Head of the Stimulation Department, and says that she uses the tablets to help the Association's residents learn and communicate.

"It's particularly helpful for the people who have no functional speech, as they can now communicate with us via Tap to Talk and AAC Communicator.

"The tablets' touch screens are easy for our residents to use, and they really have made a hugely positive impact on the care that we can offer. Children who could not communicate at all before are now able to tell us what they want and how they are feeling - and we are able to teach them life skills too."
