North West bracing itself for more protests

The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in the North West has established a Joint Operation Centre to deal with any threats and anarchy that might arise in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality.

The department over the weekend that it had heard rumours of a looming threat that services the district might be cut by those people who do not support of the intervention by the provincial government in the municipality's affairs.

The department's MEC Collen Maine said the department and the police are working around the clock to ensure the safety of residents in this community.

"Some departmental and police officials have been deployed in key strategic areas to ensure that the essential services continue uninterrupted and that no life-threatening situations erupt," the MEC said.

He urged community members to remain calm as the situation is being monitored day and night.

"If community members suspect anything or want to report any misdemeanours, they can contact the call centre on 018-388-3888," Maine said.
