The winning concept title went to Lodox Systems, which developed a full-body X-ray scanner for trauma and forensic pathology, with the runners-up being 1 Call ASAP, which helps match customers in the home improvement industry, and Absa bank.

The index in SA received 190 entries from a range of organisations across multiple industries and the organisers hope the data provided will help inform policy decisions affecting business and encourage entrepreneurship.

"Over the past few years we have seen companies in SA increasing their focus on innovation at all levels internally and expanding this to include open innovation," said Jayshree Naidoo, chief executive of Da Vinci Design, a partner of the index, together with Business Day.

"We applaud Accenture and The Da Vinci Institute for investing in this initiative, and the success of the winning organisations in demonstrating true innovation. We look forward to the growth of our economy through such initiatives," Science and Technology Minister Derek Hanekom said.
