	<title>Pollution is killing Gauteng’s fresh water sources</title>
	<link>https://www.bizcommunity.com/article/pollution-is-killing-gautengs-fresh-water-sources-955674a</link>
<description>A December 2025 WaterCAN report tested 59 water sources across Gauteng and found 39 were unsafe for human consumption.

Four Gauteng municipalities operate wastewater systems performing below the minimum 31% threshold, discharging untreated effluent into the Vaal River system, while the Goudkoppies wastewater treatment works continues to discharge raw effluent into the Klip River despite directives from the Department of Water and Sanitation.

Water management expert Anthony Turton warns the Vaal River is deteriorating rapidly.</description>
