Job summary:

Infrastructure News is a business-to-business publishing company in the infrastructure sector and is looking for a business development manager who will be responsible for driving advertising sales for:

• A bi-monthly magazine (six a year): Water&Sanitation Africa Magazine
• A quarterly publication (four a year): Resource Magazine
• Infrastructure News website, newsletter and social media platforms
• Retainers for content marketing

You will also be fostering relationships with customers, making sure that they receive maximum value for their ad spend.

Key responsibilities:

• Proactively source new business, re-engage lapsed customers and renew/upsell existing contracted business
• Monitor competitor media advertising activity and actively canvass
• You need to think and create sales proposals that cater to specific clients, create campaigns and place adverts for certain features.
• Speedily and effectively respond to and follow up on all incoming sales inquiries
• Develop industry knowledge to understand and engage with businesses within our sector effectively
• Research and source sales leads according to various features
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with all assigned customers ensuring you understand all aspects of their marketing and advertising strategies
• While we try our utmost to engage with as many potential customers as possible and are not a fan of cold calls, you will be required to sell advertising space on the telephone.
• Report weekly sales activity to your manager
• Alert your manager of any changes in any aspect (strategic, personnel, financial) likely to affect (positively or negatively) budgets, strategies or schedules
• You will have a say and contribute to the overall strategy of the company.

Skills:

• Ideally has operated in a sales manager or senior sales role – it's a flat structure, and a team player is essential.
• Must be a strategic sales thinker with an understanding of marketing
• Should have a basic knowledge of advertising in print and online platforms
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
• Outgoing and professional demeanour
• Confident and enthusiastic
