Corporate branding/logo design
  • Create corporate branding/logo design from scratch or rebranding if required.
  • Providing the client with 10 x initial logo design concepts.
After client feedback, make required logo design amendments until the client is 100% happy to approve.
  • CI brand guide (Directing all aspects of the branding guidelines for any future design collateral required).
  • Other designer responsibilities include creating customised letterheads, business cards, email signatures and iconography.
  • A good knowledge of fonts, colours and print design process is essential.
Design of print collateral
  • Pull-up banners.
  • Brochures.
  • Flyers.
  • Year books.
  • Annual reports.
  • Newspapers.
  • Info Packs.
  • Badges.
  • T-shirt design.
  • Product packaging.
  • Cookbooks.
  • Business cards, Letterheads, Email signatures.
  • We outsource all our print jobs, but the kick-ass design is still up to you!
  • We’ve done all of the above in the past, even including vehicle vinyl wraps - so always be prepared. Some cases may require you to mockup certain elements such as caps, t-shirts, office signage boards, billboards etc.
UI/UX design (website design)
  • Client supplies a clear brief of their requirements and expectations.
  • We design all our websites from scratch (Note: We don’t use page builders, frameworks, themes or paid templates).
  • The website design process starts by supplying the client with three x homepage options (Including different page layouts (look & feel), fonts, styles, colours and imagery or creative icons to suggest what might work best for the client – What they might like or be interested in (PDF sent to the client via email for feedback/approval).
  • Once the client has approved the initial website homepage design, we then move on to the design ‘flesh-out’ stage where you will design the rest of the website pages according to the approved look and feel chosen by client.
  • The web designer is responsible for creating customised/unique website icons that will work for each individual client.
  • We include design amendment stages during the web design process to allow the client to give feedback and approve the layouts (Revised PDF’s are sent to client via email).
  • Upon approval/sign off on the website design, it’s up to you to prepare the visual elements for the web developer (Example: Saving all the web elements including logo, banner images, and any other additional images and icons, graphics and textures) all saved to correct format/size, to avoid wasting any time when development begins (front-end development stage).
  • Once the website is developed, the web designer is responsible for uploading all final approved website image and text content (Double checking that all content is placed and displaying correctly).
  • You will be responsible for providing each client with their website Content Management System (CMS) training, which will include showing them how to log in, manage content and save content on their website, as well as teaching them how to resize images correctly in Adobe Photoshop, etc (The CMS training is done via Microsoft Teams virtual meeting. The meeting is recorded and the recording is shared with client for future reference).
Client correspondence
  • It will be required of you to keep clients in the loop during a live project and to liase with them regularly in a professional manner (including our known design director to be ‘CC’d’ in all emails). Even after a project is complete, it’s always a good idea to check in and see if the client is managing their website well without any problems.
Pro-active blogging and project uploading to our Known website.
  • You will be required to write a few design blog posts for Known Design. Keeping these posts relative to the latest design, website design and web development trends. This is important for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and will help our website improve rankings and make us a reputable source of web industry information, within search engines.
  • Uploading our completed portfolio of projects to the Known Design website is also important to keep our work portfolio up to date, so we don’t miss out on any big clients wanting to check our work.
Managing deadlines
  • You will need to become a master of managing deadlines. Known Design operates on www.asana.com (a user-friendly online project management tool) to help keep track of current and pending projects (Our Web Production Schedule).
  • Once a project is completed it can be ticked off the list. Time management is crucial to producing a high standard of work and keeping clients happy.
Your workstation
  • Always backup your work to the Cloud on a daily basis to avoid any loss of data and/or client information (Unless you enjoy the stress of losing your work, dealing with upset clients and starting from scratch – after hours, on your own time?).
  • Version control is crucial to avoid any room for error and keep the latest version updated at all times.
  • Take care of the hardware as if it were your own.
  • A clean desk is a happy desk. Avoid collecting piles of paper, food wrappers and dirty coffee mugs to preserve the professional appearance of the office space.
General office duties
  • Respect the space. Be aware that this is a shared office space and will require professional behaviour and etiquette.
  • Answer the phones if nobody is around, take messages and deal with walk-in clients.
  • Always clean up after yourself, for example dishes used at lunch break, tea and coffee mugs, etc.
  • Social media is limited to lunch break and after hours (This includes Whatsapp folks).
  • During work hours it will be expected of you to be performing design tasks provided, or writing blog aticles, creating new ideas for Known, etc.
Have fun!
  • Remember to enjoy your work. Not every project is going to be ideal, but it will make your life a lot easier to take each challenge as it comes and use each opportunity to learn and grow as a designer.
  • Broad spectrum design experience allows for a robust art director.
  • Confidence in your work will do amazing things for business, clients will be blown away, you’ll get faster and more comfortable when trying new things.
  • Each project is unique and requires an individual design solution (There is no one-size-fits-all approach). There is no silver bullet in design!
