A full spectrum of 220 attendees from the mobile industry gathered yesterday, 28 November 2012, at The Venue Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, South Africa for the fourth annual Mobile Web Africa conference. The event, which has been organised by UK-based All Amber, has been deemed a huge success with involvement from all the major stakeholders in what was a very interactive and output-rich first day.
There has been an increase in interest and activity in web and mobile applications over the past year. In October/November 2012, there are three important conferences focused on this developing arena, including Demo Africa, Tech4Africa and Mobile Web Africa.

It's been only four months since the launch of Motribe and already the mobile social networking platform has reached a significant milestone. As of late last night, Thursday, 20 January 2011, the South African startup now has just over 500 000 registered users. Since launch, Motribe has had over 30 million page impressions per month, 60 000 blog posts and 58% active users (over 30 days).

JOHANNESBURG: Omidyar Network on Tuesday, 7 December 2010 announced an US$825,000 grant to the Praekelt Foundation to support its pioneering use of mobile technology to drive positive social change. Funded through Omidyar Network's Government Transparency investment area, the grant will be used to extend the foundation's mobile technology platforms across Africa.
