Clover Logistics acquires new technology

Clover Logistics' new City Deep warehouse has acquired an automated sorter system, as well an advanced warehouse management system, which positions the company at the forefront of warehouse management technology.

As part of this process, a satellite operation will be implemented in Welkom this month, which will initially function by means of a cross-dock operation via City Deep. Combined loads will be despatched directly from City Deep to Welkom during the last quarter of 2004.

Construction of the City Deep facility is expected to be completed during November 2004, with the warehouse fully operational by February 2005. The warehouse operation will enable Clover Logistics to combine deliveries for Clover products and outside principals. Deliveries in Gauteng, as well as to satellite operations outside Gauteng, will benefit. State-of-the-art warehouse management and proof of load systems will greatly improve performance on stock management, order picking and physical stock-to-invoice deliveries.

Clover Logistics is the biggest refrigerated distribution operation in South Africa, with close on 18 000 customers. A division of Clover SA, Clover Logistics operates as an independent profit centre, providing logistics services for Clover and 13 key principals. Clover Logistics distributes product to the value of R7 billion a year.
