The trio - Murino Floyd (26), Tondorai Munthisi (33) and Tichavanwe Supai (37) - appeared briefly in court following their arrest on Sunday at the Beitbridge Border Post.

The two men and woman were denied bail and had their case postponed to next week.

“They were all denied bail and their case was postponed to 13 August for further police investigation,” said Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe on Tuesday.

The trio were apprehended during a sting joint stop and search operation. Their truck was stopped at the South African Revenue Service (Sars) scanner for scanning purposes. Upon scanning, a suspicious image inside the trailer horse of the truck was identified and subsequently recovered explosives with the estimated street value of R300,000.

The consignment was made up of 750 blasting cartridge explosives and three rolls of explosive cables.

The truck was also confiscated.

The origin and destination of the explosives are still being determined.

“Police investigations are still continuing,” said Ngoepe.
