The move is part of the FNB’s efforts to grow its presence and investment in local markets with 50 new community branches planned over the next three years.

The six new branches are located in the Western Cape (Delft Mall), Gauteng (Katlehong), Bloemfontein (Rocklands), KwaZulu Natal (Midway Crossing), the Eastern Cape (Kuyasa Mall) and Limpopo (Tibane Mall).

Boost for local economies

Lee-Anne van Zyl, CEO of FNB Points of Presence, says: "We are thrilled to officially open new branches to service our customers in these local markets. Our ongoing investment in local communities will not only broaden access to financial services but also boost local economies through employment and local business opportunities. During the construction of our branches, we endeavour to work with skilled local labour and contractors in the communities."

The community branches are between 70 to 180 square metres in size. The design integrates world-class technologies to heighten the customer experience by blending self-service and face-to-face interactions. As part of its efforts, FNB also recently announced that it has restored most of its branches and ATMs that were affected by the July unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Multi-channel service access

Adds van Zyl: "We are pleased to continue our journey to expand our presence and investment in local communities despite the challenges associated with Covid-19. Our strategy is to ensure that our customers can access services on our platform through several convenient channels. As a result, customers can access our services via the FNB App, and by means of online and cellphone banking with the convenience of visiting their nearest branch when they wish to do so."
