Fedusa plans to train 6 000 artisans

The Federation of Unions of South Africa has responded to calls by the minister of higher education and training, Blade Nzimande, to produce more qualified artisans and says that it will join forces with the Unemployment Insurance Fund to train about 6 000 artisans in the next five years, according to a Business Day report.

According to the Business Day report, Fedusa's vice-president Eddie de Klerk says the federation "welcomes" the renewed focus on artisan training. He agreed with Nzimande's contention that the country focused on university education rather than artisan training in a labour market that urgently needs artisans' skills.
