Shalene Naidoo, Tina Golden and Mehroon Abba, all existing employees of the company have taken the challenge to become Advertising Executives, and for the past three months each, have increased the advertising content within the newspaper beating the previous month's advertising revenue.

Since inception the Independent on Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal's leisure paper has relied on The Inc for advertising sales. However, in January 2006 a decision was made to employ three sales executives to promote the newspaper in the KwaZulu-Natal market place.

All three ladies were previously employed in internal sales positions, so this has been a promotion for each of them.

"The increased advertising sales are in the retail, motor and leisure markets as well as classified advertising," says Brian Porter acting general manager of Independent. "As we have had an increase in sales, we have been able increase the editorial content of the newspaper."

"The advertising thrust will allow us to introduce a travel section. Our reader has time to enjoy the content which is currently leisure oriented with the sport and personal finance features. The travel section will add another dimension."
