Meetings Africa establishes itself as top business tourism event

Feedback from all quarters indicates that Meetings Africa has established itself as the continent's top business tourism exhibition. Organised by the Thebe Exhibitions and Events Group, Meetings Africa was held for the second time at the Sandton Convention Centre last week.
Group Managing Director Carol Weaving says the response from both exhibitors and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. "We are definitely on the right track. Business tourism in South Africa has found a home and now we have to build on the foundation."

Some 150 business tourism companies marketed their products or services at Meetings Africa this year. Of the overall 2 510 quality visitors to the exhibition, eighty-two were international hosted buyers. Thirty-nine media representatives attended the event.

Meetings Africa was preceded by South Africa's first-ever conference that incorporated all sectors of the business tourism industry and featured international and local experts.

Anitha Soni, Chief Executive Officer of the ASA Tourism Services Group congratulated Thebe Exhibitions on a well-run and successful event. "The feedback I have received from our team has been very positive. It was definitely worth our while and many linkages were created for the entrepreneurs present."

Adene Pringle, Sales Executive - Exhibitions at the Sandton Convention Centre says: "We have heard only excellent reports from all quarters. Meetings Africa has definitely made its mark in the business tourism industry."

Meetings Africa also served as the launch platform for a comprehensive research project on the business tourism industry by Grant Thornton and Prodigy Business Services.

"Meetings Africa will be held at the same time, during late February 2007 and we look forward to developing and growing this event in the future," says Weaving.

Meetings Africa was presented in conjunction with the Gauteng Tourism Authority and enjoyed support from, amongst others, the Johannesburg Convention Bureau, the Department of Trade and Industry and South African Tourism. For more information visit
