ABF mourns the loss of Brian McMillan, a giant in the industry
It is with great sadness that the ABF notes the passing of Brian McMillan on 3 April 2013. He had not been well for some time and finally succumbed to pneumonia.
Brian had a proud record in the advertising industry having been involved in research with several agencies including Grant Advertising and Lindsay Smithers as they were then known. He was later associated with AC Nielsen.
He also participated in several industry committees including the Advertising Benevolent Fund (ABF), where he not only served as President for a few terms, but also helped to raise an enormous amount of funds.
Dave Granville Roberts, a national committee member for many years, said that, "His was a character larger than life and certainly large enough to hold its own in an industry full to the brim with larger than life people. He was for me the epitome of someone dedicated to assisting others and he proved that over and over again in his work for the ABF. To say that he will be sorely missed is to miss the point entirely. He was one of our industry's giants."
Brian will best be remembered for the fund raising auctions he ran at ABF Golf Days and SAMRA Conventions, where audiences were regaled with many humorous anecdotes.
The ABF extends its sincerest condolences to his widow Doris and to his family.
A wake/memorial service was held for Brian at the Bryanston Sports Club where he was a long-standing member of the squash section, on Wednesday 10 April at 4pm.
