Filming of Durban Beach Rescue season two captures high drama with fast-paced, real life action

Principle photography has just been completed on the second season of the real, in-the-moment character-driven docu-reality series Durban Beach Rescue commissioned by Travel Channel, DStv Channel 179

Season two of the popular documentary series Durban Beach Rescue is set to premiere on Travel Channel, DStv Channel 179 in November this year. Season one of Durban Beach Rescue aired on Travel Channel in 2015 and won the prestigious Maritime Award for Excellence in Media.

Durban Beach Rescue is set in the beach city of Durban during the December holiday season, and the shows follow the day-to-day experiences of the lifeguards who risk their lives to keep three million holidaymakers safe. Season two has a different look to season one as a larger percentage of the series was filmed at the northern beaches.

According to Bronwyn Berry, Executive Producer of Durban Beach Rescue and director of Ruby Rocket Media, this time round the series is less about the influx of holiday-makers and overwhelming crowds on beaches, and more about holiday-makers having the time of their lives under the watchful eye of the lifeguards. “Although the theme of danger vs safety runs throughout the series, the tone of the show is fun and friendly, seeking out the moments of lightness and warmth as characters work together night and day, as a united team.”

“The show reflects a diverse, new Africa, a South Africa where a middle aged Dutch tourist group and thousands of local beach-goers can co-exist on the same beach. Where the desires of both Chinese tourists looking for solitude and local Zulu families celebrating the New Year, can be fulfilled” says Berry.

Over the 12-part series, viewers will come to know the lifeguards on the beaches from Wedge to uShaka, Umhlanga Main to Bronze Beach and even further north to Ballito. With each team stretched to the limit over the four week festive season, characters will be tested. Season two is high drama with fast-paced, real-life action. There’s never a dull moment on Durban’s beaches and it’s all captured in Durban Beach Rescue season two.
