Decorex Joburg took top honours as the Best Trade and Consumer Exhibition: 12 000 m2 and over. Adding another bow to its string of industry achievements, Carol Weaving, Managing Director of Thebe Exhibitions and Projects Group who owns Decorex SA, was inducted into the EXSA Hall of Fame, marking her dedication and contribution to the exhibition industry.
According to Natalie Naude, chairperson of EXSA, the Awards event is the culmination of a year of hard work by industry members and the EXSA board, bringing everyone together to celebrate all the successes of 2011 and honouring those who have contributed tirelessly towards making this such an exceptional year.
"Winning these coveted accolades from our peers hold special significance for us in a year that Decorex Joburg celebrates its 18th year," says Weaving, "The quality of our exhibitors and the way they continue to lift their game play a major role in our success - so does the continued support from key industry players such as Plascon, our main sponsor since 1994."
The special efforts the organizing team put into the overall show design is also pivotal. "To sustain our standards we lead by example, putting great emphasis on innovative visitor experiences. This in turn motivates exhibitors to strive for design excellence at their own stands."
Cairey Slater, general manager: exhibitions, Decorex SA, stresses the importance of never resting on their laurels. "Every year we go back to the drawing board to revisit the entire layout, conceptualize new initiatives and foster creative collaborations with design partners. This year we were able to perfect it, with the award confirming that our approach was the right one."
Further affirmation of the brand's success is its strong growth despite a flattened economy. The numbers speak for themselves: 53 000 trade and consumer visitors (14% more than in 2010) flocked to Decorex Joburg at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand; over 700 high-end exhibitors, five halls brimming with newly unveiled products, ten trend-focused show features, 75 special interest talks and demonstrations, nine pop-up restaurants designed exclusively for the show and over 22 000 m² exhibition space.
Slater added that while the award is a feather in their cap, the Decorex-team is especially excited about the contribution the brand makes towards supporting the country's decor and design industries.
The next Decorex SA exhibition is the 10th annual Decorex Durban 2012 which will be held at the Durban Exhibition Centre from 21 - 25 March 2012. For more information, visit www.decorex.co.za
