'High-fives' all round at Isolezwe

There is still growth in the local newspaper market - Isolezwe's latest ABCs prove it.
'High-fives' all round at Isolezwe
The first issue of Isolezwe ngoMgqibelo (Saturday) was published in August 2011 and the recently released fourth quarter ABCs (October - December 2011) show that within a few short months, the title has generated an enviable sale, at 58 851 copies a week.

"Although not without its risks, entering the Saturday market has worked for us," say Independent Newspapers KZN Joint GM, Brian Porter. "It wasn't an easy decision - to invest in a new product when newsprint prices are hitting us hard and circulations are under pressure. We had faith in the market and it's paying of handsomely."

For Isolezwe's weekend team in particular, the ABCs have been a cause for 'high-fives' all around.

"Our Sunday title has grown and blossomed," says Weekend Editor, Slindile Khanyile. "We've been above 80,000 for two quarters now and this quarter also sees us take the number one position in the Zulu Sunday market for the first time. It's a position we'd like to keep."

Isolezwe daily, which celebrates ten years of publishing in April this year, recorded a 103, 467 sale. "It's another great result for us," says Editor, Mazwi Xaba. "It's the fifth consecutive quarter we've been above 100,000 and, with the way 2012 has started, it's all good news."

"Newspapering is a supreme team endeavour," concludes Porter, "Isolezwe's sustained growth is thanks to everyone's efforts. Our editorial teams are spot-on with their content, both our local and national sales teams get great advertising support, we've got an energetic and proactive marketing team and our publishers and delivery guys do a fantastic job of delivering copies to thousands of outlets every day."
