Themed year-end events are a fantastic way to allow staff to 'let their hair down', dress up and interact with colleagues and clients in an informal setting. The challenge is finding a theme that fits the company's culture and values, and at the same time is innovative and fresh. This is where BlackJack Events excels. Over the last 10 years we have created the Weird, Wonderful and even Wacky. Below are some examples of creative themed events we designed for our clients in 2010. Feeling Irie - BlackJack Events brings the spirit of Jamaica to Alexander Forbes' year-end
Using traditional Rastafarian coloured draping, over forty tonnes of white beach sand, and enough props to fill four 12 ton trucks, BlackJack Events transformed the Africa Room at Helderfontein Estate into a Jamaican beach party never to be forgotten. Over 2500 Alexander Forbes staff entered their own purpose built beach-side resort complete with bars, food stations and activities galore.
Guests lounged around on bright coloured bean bags, Lillo's and hammocks while others enjoyed the various interactive zones created. Food and Drink was a plenty and truly gave staff a taste of carefree island living. Everyone got into the rhythm during an interactive group drumming session, and for those who were feeling brave enough there was surfing on a mechanical surfboard, rolling in a Zorb ball and even karaoke.
No tropical island beach party is complete without the right beats. The sounds of steel drums and bass filled the air and added to the chilled ambiance. Guests were entertained by Tokyo Grove and DJ Louis while YFM DJ and comedian Thato Mataboge kept everything groovy as he MC'd the event.
Red Hot and Ridiculous - Ogilvy and BlackJack Events go raving mad for a year-end party
The advertising industry has a reputation for being colourful and creative, and maybe just a little bit crazy.
BlackJack Events was tasked with the event design for a party with a difference. The brief: re-imagining the world as a place that is Red Hot and Ridiculous and create an event that is as successful and imaginative as South Africa's leading Advertising Agency.
BlackJack Events successfully transformed Ogilvy's Bryanston Offices into an event space never seen before. A large inflatable duck kept watch over a bubble bath fountain. Hidden in the garden was a fibreglass lion, while a T-Rex roamed in the greenery. An unsuspecting plastic tiger was hanging overhead, trapped in a birdcage while a parrot looked on. Among other things, a giant egg and a pair of Grecian statue legs supported cocktail tables. One tree was adorned with bright hula hoops and a cheeky traffic sign cautioned people to 'stop: hammertime'. Clients and staff really came to the party - as only advertising execs can- with their creative outfits complementing the crazy aesthetics and decor.
Fresh from performing on Britain's got talent; The Romanian Born "Slinky Man" wowed the crowd with his lithe moves and agile contortions. Engulfed in a giant, rainbow-coloured slinky, he had the audience transfixed with his signature antics. Guests then danced the night away on a Pacman styled dance floor.
RIGHT ON CUE
BlackJack Events sets the stage for Investec Private Bank's dramatic year-end function
The magic and excitement of the theatre are undeniable. It is a place where one can be transformed into anything you want to be. Here creative flair and determination are celebrated, while the hours of preparation that take place behind the curtain are rewarded with the splendour of the grand finale.
The theatre was therefore ideal inspiration for an event to celebrate a year of hard work and achievement.
Guests at the Investec Private Bank year end function were reminded of the key roles they play when it comes to the organisation's performance - "they are the stars". Each of the 1000 guests enjoyed a moment in the spotlight as they posed to have a photo taken on a pink couch in a giant black photo frame.
Guests were given a backstage pass to dressing rooms were the anticipation of a night on stage was re-created. BlackJack Events' attention to detail could be seen in the costume and wardrobe rails that lined the room, as well as the dazzling mirrors which added to the theatricality.
The clear PVC marquee was decked out using a sophisticated black and white palette, with bold splashes of bright pink to compliment the pizzazz and drama of the night. Elegant, back lit bars were serviced by BlackJack Events' trademark professionalism and swift service with Entertainment and fun certainly taking centre stage at this show-stopping celebration.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
BlackJack Events mixes it up at the British American Tobacco year-end
After a vigorous tender process, BlackJack Event's duel-themed 'Sophiatown Jazz featuring African Shebeen' was the blue print for a year-end function that proved to be double the fun. Over 900 guests were invited to the British American Tobacco head offices in Heidelberg to celebrate the end of yet another successful year.
The Jazz lounge was created using timeless black and white decor, with charming characters playing the sax and cello. Grand wing-backed chairs, leather couches and dazzling chandeliers added to the feel of a mysterious smoky jazz lounge. In Contrast, the other side of the venue was awash with bright yellow and blue decor, foosball tables and piles of beer crates encapsulating Jozi's lively and laidback spirit. Neutral coloured couches, where groups of friends could kick-back and relax, completed the welcoming and comfortable setting.
Entertainment was in the form of an enthusiastic Marimba Band and vibrant Pantsula Dancers who got the party-goers into the swing of things with their locally-inspired performances, which took place on a boxing ring-styled stage. Guest were also encouraged to sign their name on the BAT Wall of fame, created on site by a team of dedicated graffiti artists.
