Brabys.com, the largest and most used online business directory for Southern Africa and the SADC region, has had a facelift. Brabys was one of the earliest Internet adopters over 12 years ago and has built up a comprehensive directory of over 330 000 business listings. New listings are captured daily, and all information is verified.
It is used extensively by a wide range of people looking for company information, business leads and service providers. Brabys currently serves around 327 000 unique users a month, generating over 2.4 million page impressions.
A considered facelift
“We haven't just overhauled our site for the sake of it,” says Mala Augustine, Internet Manager of Brabys.com. “We're mindful that users develop a level of comfort and trust with websites that they use regularly, and have been careful not to make changes that will require our community to learn a new interface.” Consequently the site overhaul has focussed more on improving the presentation of content and optimising the business directory search tools.
The new “cleaner” site has standardised ads and highlighted company branding. Client “hot spots” are featured “above the fold” on the home page for more prominent display and in order to be identified more readily by site visitors. These are linked to partner micro-sites grouped by business category.
A key aspect of the overhaul has been the introduction of interactivity between the business directory search, telephone search, map search and directory funnel. The search fields now allow users to search across these sections from one place.
Previous functionality has of course been retained: users can still search according to business type or business name, as well as by dialling code, postal code or telephone number.
Users can also easily sign up for the Brabys mail and subscribe to the Brabys newsletter.
Valuable services for businesses
The new website has also retained all the services that have made it such a worthwhile directory for businesses to be listed in.
Businesses can book premium listings that offer additional features such as logo, text, 6 classification service headings, email link, web link and a map link detailing the location of the business and giving directions.
Thanks to Brabys partnership with Ananzi, South Africa's premier search engine, advertisers also have the advantage of choosing banner-to-banner packages on both Ananzi and Brabys.com for maximum exposure.
