Mother City agency, Draftfcb Cape Town, and several of its clients have made their mark in the annual Best of Joburg Readers' Choice Awards.
In the 2010 awards, announced late in October, two of Draftfcb Cape Town's clients were given the stamp of approval - Spur Steak Ranches and Santam.
Spur Steak Ranches topped three categories - Best Steakhouse Franchise, Best Dinner on a Budget, and Best Children's Menu Restaurant - and also received a special award for topping the Best Steakhouse Franchise category for a phenomenal 10 years: 1996, 1999 - 2001, 2005 - 2010. In the category Best Local Music Event, the Santam/Highveld Stereo live music extravaganza, Joburg Day, took the honours.
"Spur's achievements this year are testament to the hard-working franchisees, and dynamic operational and marketing teams," said Draftfcb Cape Town managing director, Godfrey Morley. "Their energy and passion are legendary in the Mother City, there's a fantastic client-agency relationship, and it's wonderful to know that we played a part in their success in Joburg.
"In Santam's case, it has been the headline sponsor of Joburg Day for the past five years. Organised by Highveld Stereo, this is an annual open air music festival featuring some of South Africa's top music performers on stage.
"As Santam's agency, we are responsible for leveraging the sponsorship through interactive activations each year. Along with interactions like safety lockers, lost and found, wrist bands for children, caps and other handouts, Santam has in the past given away things like home security make-overs and other lifestyle items.
"Staff members are present on the day to ensure Santam VIPs are well looked after, and that the activations and promotions run smoothly. We are delighted that Santam's commitment to Joburgers has been recognised and acknowledged in this way; and are equally thrilled of the role we played in ensuring that the event did our client proud," he said.
Draftfcb Cape Town enjoyed a successful October of its own: not only did it land one of the most prestigious accounts to go out to pitch this year (Engen), its work has been recognised at the international Midas Awards for financial services advertising, and it has had several clients top their categories in the annual The Times/Sowetan Retail Awards.
Researched and published by Leisure Options, Best of Joburg is a highly successful competition, now in its 15th year. Every year, using a ballot distributed in five local Caxton Community Newspapers in the northern suburbs of the city, it asks Joburgers to nominate the Best of the Best of Joburg Life. There are 120 categories - from Best Bakery to Best Fashion Boutique, from Best Travel Agent to Best Hardware Store - and last year over 127 000 ballots were cast.
