The benefits of the increase in the candidate profile base can already be seen in some of the year-on-year statistics for the platform. In industries such as trades, mining and manufacturing - where there is a national focus - it is encouraging to see a tangible increase in active job applications and not only in the number of positions advertised in those fields. This shows that the new candidates that are regularly signing up to the platform are actively engaged.
In the trade, mining and manufacturing industries there was a 141% increase in job postings year-to-date (YTD) and along with an overall increase for active applications, specifically in the chemical arena, which saw a 24% YTD increase. Another industry which has reaped the benefits of the rapid growth of the candidate profile base was the media realm, with a lofty increase of 83% of active applications on the platform.
Another contributor to the growth of the profile database was the introduction of the Careers24 mobile app. Online recruitment via mobile devices is a definite growing trend and South Africa is showing particular promise with smartphone user growth placed at 27.1% in 2014. The growth of smartphone usage in our market is also expected to be among the fastest in the world - according to
eMarketer. Careers24 integrated this into their growth strategy by developing and successfully rolling out the app in 2013. "This, along with our new and improved graduate section launched earlier this year, has most definitely assisted with the steep increase in quality candidate profiles," says Privett.
"Both of these new product offerings were specifically aimed at the digitally savvy, career focused Millennials. And the developments paid off - the result has been a marked increase in quality profiles," he adds.
