Gallagher plays host to Decorex Joburg 2010

For the past seventeen years, Decorex SA has aimed to bring the décor community of South Africa the latest in international and local décor trends and new viewpoints on living spaces. Gallagher Convention Centre recently hosted Decorex Joburg 2010, which was a 'Breath of Fresh Air' for decorating enthusiasts across Gauteng, as the show was aptly themed.

Says Adolf Venter, Chief Executive of Gallagher: "Decorex Joburg rates amongst the most popular trade and consumer shows that Gallagher hosts annually. This year the show attracted almost 50 000 visitors, an increase of 74% in trade visitors from last year. In recent times we made every effort, to improve our offering for events such as Decorex Joburg, with major investments in facility management."

Comments Melanie Robinson, Decorex SA portfolio director: "We hosted over 700 exhibitors, filling the five exhibition halls at Gallagher. The focus of this year's exhibition was very much on green living, proving that this has become priority for decorators and consumers."

Apart from the exhibition, there were two full day conferences, focusing on interior design and architecture. Both the 'Conversations on Architecture' and the 'Interior Design Dialogue' conferences attracted many trade visitors and were well attended. There were also dedicated areas for lighting, namely the new Lighting in Design Pavilion and the 'Plascon 2011 Colour Forecast' which launched at the show. An addition to the exhibition this year was the 'District Delicious' pavilion, popular with food lovers.

The South African Handmade Collection was again hosted alongside Decorex Joburg. This collection of South African producers and products focusing on enhancing exports of craft and design products from South Africa, is an initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry. The products that were on display included wire and bead works, ceramics, furniture, candles and stationary, to mention a few.
