AFDA is inviting applications for the position of Cinematography / Data Management Lecturer

Roles and responsibilities
  • To deliver lectures in Cinematography, Data Management and Colour Grading to undergraduate students.
  • There is also a strong emphasis on cultural relevance within the teaching, and so the incumbent will help students to identify and develop a distinctive African voice for their productions. In this way, we hope to be able to contribute to nation building and build the foundations for a sustainable local film industry.
  • Top prepare lecture content and lesson plans for each term
  • To compile assessment registration for the term’s assessments
  • To work with counter-parts to ensure parity across all campuses on term outcomes
  • To administer attendance registers and manage classroom learning and teaching activities.

  • Ability to deliver lectures based on Canon 5D and the Arri Alexa
  • Competency in film and lighting gear
  • Knowledge of lighting and film theory
  • Proficiency in Data Management
  • Proficiency in Colour Grading using Davinci Resolve.
  • Ability to mark treatments, final review and monitoring assignment hand-ins
  • Availability to respond to students’ questions and one-on-one meetings (to be arranged by lecturer)
  • Ability to conduct student consultations and reflective meetings

Selection criteria
  • Minimum qualification: a relevant Honours degree in Film and/or Media Studies with specialization in Cinematography or Data Management & Colour Grading.      
  • At least five years’ experience in the film and entertainment industry with practical competency in post-production
  • Industry and / or knowledge of the Film/Television and / or Performance industries
  • Established work experience in tertiary education.
