Position PHP Developer-Cape Town

Red and Yellow is looking for a mid-level PHP developer to join our ambitious and dynamic support team. The successful candidate will work closely with our Customer team to maintain and enhance our online assets – public websites, associated websites, our LMS (Learner Management System) and other systems as part of our ‘Tech Stack’.

The PHP Developer will be part of a small team, primarily working on Red and Yellow’s main website (eCommerce based). You will work closely with the Head of Marketing Technology using Scrum and Agile methodologies to craft high-impact web and mobile applications. We are looking for someone truly passionate and enthusiastic about software and its various applications, someone with reasonable experience and mid-level technical ability. We are committed to providing training and development to help you learn on the job. The successful candidate must be able to write clean maintainable code and follow style guidelines.

A typical day may look like

• Maintaining the Red & Yellow website from an e-commerce perspective
• Working closely with the Head of Marketing Technology using scrum and Agile methodologies to craft high-impact web and mobile applications
• Ensuring clean maintainable code within style guidelines
• Writing automated tests
• Develop new features and functions for existing products
• Maintain coding standards and best practices
• Research and implement new technologies, tools and methods
• Code reviews
• PHP – preferably the Themosis framework
• JavaScript and JQuery knowledge
• HTML and CSS
• WordPress and WooCommerce
• Deploy code to staging and production environments 
• Ability to understand the core of a problem and research possible solutions using relevant online resources
• Comfortable working within a team 
• Ability to work on multiple projects and adhere to tight deadlines

Have you got what it takes?

• Proven software development experience in PHP
• Understanding of open source projects like Joomla, Drupal, Wikis, osCommerce, etc
• Demonstrable knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX etc
• Good knowledge of relational databases, version control tools and of developing web services
• Experience in common third-party APIs (Google, Facebook, Linked In etc)
• Passion for best design and coding practices and a desire to develop new bold ideas

We can’t live without

• Grade 12 certificate or equivalent Level 4 qualification
• Bachelor degree in computer science or diploma in information technology/information systems
• Experience in PHP development, MySQL, JQuery, HTML and CSS
