Lecturer – Advertising and Marketing Learnership

Purpose of the position  


We are looking for an experienced, passionate Lecturer to join our Academic team from 1 January 2020 for a 5-month term to teach and mentor the next generation of Red and Yellow game changers at our Johannesburg premises. Our Advertising and Marketing Learnership is an incredibly important programme at Red & Yellow, and has allowed us to transform the lives of hundreds of young marketers over the last 4 years. You will be a key part to ensuring its continued success. 

As Lecturer in your field of expertise, you will take full responsibility for the academic performance, regulatory coordination, class-room logistics and ultimate functioning of your programme.  You will be required to work closely with the Education Manager and our JHB team, other faculty heads and lecturing team members to maintain, develop and grow R&Y’s respected and well-established course offering.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lecture the Programme and co-ordinate guest lecturers and speakers
  • Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of the Programme
  • Contribute to the ongoing design and development of the Programme and curriculum as part of Red and Yellow’s broader Programme offerings
  • Assist with submissions for regulatory approval of the Programme and liaise and maintain a good, productive relationship with SETA
  • Conduct research activities to continuously improve the quality and industry-relevance of the Programme
  • Liaise with academic colleagues and relevant industry contacts to ensure ongoing development of the Programme
  • Participate in the annual upgrade of Programme content
  • Participate in student recruitment, selection and registration process
  • Perform academic monitoring (including attendance) and maintenance of student records in consultation with the faculty administrative and support staff
  • Set assessments, exam papers and assessment instruments
  • Control assessment, tests and examinations
  • Take part in internal moderation
  • Conduct marking and oversee moderation
  • Mark / moderate assessment, tests and examination papers as requested by the Senior Lecturer/ Head of Departments
  • Participate in Examination and Certification processes and promotion of students.
  • Attend regular faculty staff meetings
  • Participate in updating of faculty policies and procedures
  • Maintain a schedule of equipment within the department
  • Ensure hard and electronic filing of all required documentation
  • Oversee communication between support staff and students within programme offerings
  • Participate in student grievance and disciplinary sessions
  • Perform any other responsibilities as reasonably delegated by a member of senior management
  • Annually update lecturer outlines, programme schedules and lesson planning
  • Assist with achieving accreditation of programmes
  • Lecture in accordance with the requirements of the programme outcomes and in accordance with the accredited programme outlines
  • Attend and assist with internal and external faculty events
  • Track and report on students at risk
  • Benchmarking of programme offerings against other relevant accredited and unaccredited training institutions
  • Adhere to centralised policies and procedures that will ensure outstanding quality and unquestionable integrity of all academic programmes that are offered at the campus.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Graduate level qualification in marketing, advertising or similar field
  • Experience in either: 
    • An agency or similar background; and/or
    • Higher education environment, preferably in the digital marketing, advertising and communications field is highly advantageous
  • A great understanding of (and work experience in) digital marketing is highly advantageous
  • An understanding of SAQA, NQF and SETA landscape is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of SETA learnership processes advantageous (, i.e. managing learner related documents, SETA quarterly reports and uploading learner achievements into SETA management system)
  • Proven experience managing students in a tertiary environment
  • Familiar with student management systems – Moodle ideal
  • Relevant industry experience advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead, command, inspire and contribute to Red & Yellow vision and culture
  • Excellent planning skills
