Ninety9cents (99c) is a full-service, integrated advertising agency headquartered in Cape Town, with offices in Johannesburg and Zambia.  One of South Africa’s largest independently owned agencies; 99c also topped a 2017 industry poll as the ‘Most Admired Ad Agency in Cape Town’.  The agency’s extensive client base includes leading brands such as Shoprite/Checkers, Ackermans, PUMA, the Spur Group, Distell and Digicape, to name but a few. 

We are looking for a passionate individual to join our PR department in the capacity of PR account manager.  The PR department is a relatively new department within the agency; therefore, the candidate will play a pivotal role in elevating and expanding the department - a fantastic opportunity for growth within an exciting and supportive environment.

The role calls for a versatile person with the ability to work across a diverse range of accounts and industries, effortlessly bridging the gap between B2B and consumer PR. You will report to the PR director, and you will be supported by a PR account executive.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Instrumental in the development and execution of the PR strategy for the agency and its clients
  • Instrumental in developing and growing the role of the PR department within the business and ensuring integration with existing disciplines
  • Conceptualising strong and impactful campaigns; managing the implementation of campaigns, and ensuring deliverables are met
  • As account manager, you will be clients’ primary day-to-day contact, and responsible for maintaining a good relationship with them
  • Drafting coherent briefs to the various departments within the agency and managing their delivery
  • Drafting press material and social copy
  • Identifying key media/influencers and establishing good relationships on behalf of the department
  • Management and compilation of media/influencer lists, media liaison and sell-in
  • Organising and managing media events
  • General account management admin – compiling reports and insights, scheduling meetings, ensuring process is followed, budgets are maintained, CEs are billed etc.
  • Proactive in exploring new avenues that will add value to clients and the agency
  • Managing and mentoring an account executive, who will report directly to you


Requirements

  • Three years’ industry experience
  • Matric certificate and a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Driver’s license and own transport
Technical skills/knowledge: 
  • Proficiency in CHASE would be advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of media, and experience in social media campaign conceptualisation and management
Personal attributes:
  • Extremely organised, with attention to detail and initiative
  • Passion for media (new and traditional) and ability to create engaging, strategically sound content
  • Highly adaptable, with good problem-solving skills
  • Someone who is not afraid to step outside the confines of a ‘job spec’ to add value to different areas of the business
  • Presentable and professional, with an eager to learn and enthusiastic attitude
