Job description

Ogilvy is seeking an experienced digital account director to lead the digital client relationships. The role reports into the Ogilvy management team (CSD) but is also accountable to the business directors within the advertising agency who runs the integrated client relationship. The account director should provide inspiration and be the driving force for the Ogilvy team having strong client leadership skills, be a great communicator and display a passion for strategic and creative thinking. The role will require the individual on the account to ensure that projects are managed through to completion with rigour and discipline. The role requires a strong level of partnership and collaboration with the head of delivery at all times.

  • Write simple, concise, and inspirational creative briefs – developing with planning and clients as necessary
  • Drive creative quality on the account and look for opportunities to push boundaries where possible
  • Responsible for the creative quality of each live project
  • Live and breathe the client’s brand
  • Strong financial acumen – including the ability to negotiate digital project fees
  • In a fair and transparent manner
  • Responsible for financial well-being of live projects, including income and an understanding of profit margin
  • Forecast and manage resource requirements within Ogilvy
  • Regularly meet with finance to manage the forecast to be on track for month, quarter and year
  • Flagging any concerns and possible solutions to Ogilvy management
  • Proactively spot financial opportunities with client to develop the business
  • Partner with planning team (also involving business director and lead planner) on strategic proposals involving them throughout key creative development process where possible
  • Responsible for delivering strategic proposals on time – and the management of planning process required to achieve this
  • Confident in giving strategic guidance to the team and directing the level of planning input required
  • Monitor and maintain high overall levels of client service – including quality control of all live projects in partnership with the head of delivery
  • Take ownership of the Project Tracker and ensure the client is satisfied with its status
  • Always give the best advice and champion/defend that advice as far as possible in front of clients
  • Seek out proactive opportunities to increase client satisfaction and loyalty
  • Acknowledge all client requests, briefs, etc., as soon as possible after receiving them, clearly explaining when and what next steps will be
  • Look for ways to improve and evolve digital agency processes in line with ongoing client feedback
  • Be the primary agency point of contact for digital client contacts and strive to act as a trusted partner, not just a supplier
  • Demonstrate a true passion for the client’s goals and aims
  • Ensure time spent at client’s offices is used most efficiently and isn’t just time at a laptop
  • Take the key role in integrated meetings, actively representing the Ogilvy’s requirements
  • Encourage 'one team' ethic and manage/distribute workload appropriately. Work to create a happy atmosphere
  • Ensure workload is evenly balanced with opportunities given to help team development
  • Upwardly manage to BD and Ogilvy management when needed
  • Lead by example – be the conscience of the team – monitoring and helping them to keep their promises
  • Be available and offer advice, opinion and support by approaching the team not waiting to be asked
The Ogilvy account director as a leader:  
  • Ability to ‘hold the room’ in client/internal presentations even when not the most senior agency rep
  • Is seen as the 'right-hand person' to the business director for digital
  • Is the initial client ‘go to’ to manage most requests or issues
  • Demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ) when building relationships and when dealing with potentially difficult situations
  • Committed to assisting the Gloo team above the day to day and proactively looks for ways to get involved
  • Experience in 'doing things differently' to find ways around problems


Skill-set and personality traits required: 
  • Ability to lead an agency team across digital disciplines
  • Must have 5+ years of relevant experience 
  • Superb creative judgment and the ability to protect and develop work from first internal review to final delivery (in collaboration with a head of delivery)
  • Accomplished presentation skills
  • A strong leader – able to inspire
  • Focused and able to break through problems
  • Excellent at building relationships (face-to-face and virtual)
  • Seeks out challenges
  • Enthusiastic, passionate, committed, fun
