Forgiveness earns two awards at Locarno

The South African movie Forgiveness has received two prestigious awards at the Locarno International Film Festival. In the official competition at Locarno, the Cinema e Gioventu (Youth in Cinema) jury awarded Forgiveness the Best Film accolade. It also received the Human Rights prize.

The Human Rights prize (open to films both in Official competition and to selected Human Rights related films in the open festival) was awarded to Forgiveness for its focus on themes linked to Human Rights issues.

Forgiveness was directed by Ian Gabriel and produced by Jeremy Nathan, Joel Phiri and Cindy Gabriel. It stars Arnold Vosloo, Zane Meas, Christo Davids and Denise Newman. Forgiveness tells the story of a family's cathartic rebirth when confronted by the confession of an ex-apartheid cop.

Locally Forgiveness is now in its 8th week of release showing at Cavendish Cinema Nouveau screened by Nedbank in Cape Town and Ster-Kinekor Carlton as well as NuMetro Brightwater Commons (Randburg Waterfront) Johannesburg.
