November was chaired by Rob McLennan of Net#work BBDO, and December by Matthew Bull of Lowe Bull. Commented Bull, “Budgets are being cut, clearly. At least that was the evidence when it came to the meager (quantity-wise) offering of [December]. So no outdoor and magazine due to a lack of entries.”

According to Bull, newspaper was a “popular winner... particularly for the look of the work and the strong strategic direction. Both it and the runner-up were considered strong campaign ideas. Kind of tapered off from there, but overall not a bad selection for the judges.”

As for film, “it's summer time and beach time, so let's describe this category as vanilla soft-serve - enjoyable but ultimately not great for you,” he continued.

Radio had two conceptually strong winners, according to Bull: “[J]udges felt that Tractec was a strong conceptual work ideally suited for radio, while Kulula was also a strong, extremely entertaining idea. Judges ultimately couldn't separate the two. And then it plummeted into shouldn't-be-heard of depths. And look, I accept I'm old and fuddy duddy, but enough with the sexual innuendo - even if you're selling sex. Be fresh and original.

“And may that sentiment apply to your approach next year as well. My thanks to a lovely jury.”
