‘CNN Connects: The New South Africa' featured the nation's top business leaders, politicians and cultural icons for a round-table discussion on the state of South Africa – just 10 years after it emerged from the isolation of apartheid – and the challenges the nation faced as a potential leader on the international stage. CNN's Jim Clancy led this forum from the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto, a building of great significance in the anti-apartheid struggle.
CNN Worldwide was given the “Best Practices” Award for the exemplary work by the network's journalists in covering issues of significance to the black community and the African diaspora and the news organisation as a whole for its efforts to increase diversity on air and behind the scenes.
An advocacy group established in 1975 in Washington, DC, NABJ is reputed to be the largest organisation of journalists of colour in US, with nearly 4000 members, and provides educational, career development and support to black journalists worldwide.
