Time, money and everything else

At Blue Moon, we understand – only too well – that ‘time is money’. And that wastage of either is a very bad thing. We reckon time is a whole lot more valuable than money, though, because while both are very real and very abstract, time is also finite. So how do we max its value?

There is nothing about anyone’s experience of being alive – or dead – that is not related to time. It is the singular most defining factor of ‘the human experience’. Languages are constructed to express our relationship with it (‘I would have liked to have had…’), and it governs any system – natural and man-made – that you can think of.

Deadlines aside, and unlike money, no-one ever knows how much time they’ve actually got. But just like money, you can buy time, trade it, make it, spend it, and hit it big. Or you can kill it, blow it, and end up out of it. So really it all just boils down to what you do with what you have.

You can pay back money, but you can’t turn back time. Nor can you sell it. But you can save it and invest it – and doing either might earn you dividends. You’ll never end up with more actual time, ‘in the long run’, though. You’ll just end up with having gotten more out of it. Somehow.

So... how?

They say being organised is good. There are many books, in a variety of genres, giving advice on how to manage anything from a stationery drawer to a multinational workforce… presuming you have either. But ‘organised’ means different things to different people, depending on what matters to them. And there’s the essence: It’s all only ever about what matters most.

Do you know what matters most, in the work you do?
Do the same things matter to your team?
